Prof. Catherine Conybeare Receives Visiting Fellowships at University of Oxford

Professor of Greek, Latin, and Classical Studies Catherine Conybeare has been elected to a Visiting Fellowship at the University of Oxford鈥檚 All Souls College for the University鈥檚 2019-2020 fall and spring terms. She has also been elected to a Visiting Fellowship at the University of Oxford鈥檚 Corpus Christi College for the summer term. Conybeare studied Classics as an undergraduate at Corpus Christi College before receiving her Ph.D. from the University of Toronto and coming to 魅影直播 in 2002.

Conybeare will be one of a select group of professors invited to study at one of the world鈥檚 oldest universities and will spend her time there focusing on her research on the Latin language and late antiquity, especially the writings of Augustine of Hippo.

She has written four monographs, including The Irrational Augustine (2006) and The Laughter of Sarah (2013), and more than 60 articles and reviews on such topics as aurality, touch, violence, and the self. Conybeare is currently working on her next monograph, Augustine the African; she is also co-editing, with Simon Goldhill, Philology鈥檚 Shadow, essays exploring the interdependence of theology and classical philology.
