CBT Treatment for Insomnia and Chronic Pain
Two common concerns of clients are insomnia and chronic pain. Current thinking is that insomnia is often a primary presenting problem, not secondary to depression or anxiety. Insomnia often affects sleep. This course will address ways to help clients to identify thoughts and behaviors that impede the ability to sleep and improve sleep without medications. The effects of pain are both physical and psychological. Thoughts that pain can cause a physiological reaction may increase the initial pain. The practice of CBT with these clients may help lessen this cycle and support clients in finding deescalating cognitions, and relaxation and problem solving techniques for a full life despite pain.
