The staff and faculty of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) work together to support GSAS students and create a community within the GSAS. From application to admission, enrollment, graduation, and beyond, we work closely to support students’ professional goals and well-being. Supports in the broader College environment are also available. Access Services provides students with disabilities a path to key accommodations to support their learning goals.
Resources for GSAS students include academic year financial support, Supplemental Summer Support (SSRF and RA), tuition waivers, travel/research funds, international travel support, parental accommodations, and so on.
Some of the supports we offer are highlighted below:
New Student Orientation
Before the start of each Fall semester, the GSAS holds an orientation designed to welcome new students to the GSAS community.
Teaching Assistant Orientation
Starting in the academic year 2022-23, the GSAS provides a Teaching Assistant Orientation, which includes information sessions on Title IX, ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ undergraduate students, and teaching technology, a workshop on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), a pedagogy workshop, and panel discussion with faculty and experienced TAs. A GSAS TA handbook is provided to TAs.
Support for Writing and Fellowship Applications
GSAS writing consultants at the writing center provide consultations to GSAS students on writing tasks of any kind: coursework, conference papers, articles, dissertations, graduate fellowship applications, and job market materials. Each year, ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥'s graduate students apply for and win prestigious funding awards from charitable institutions. The sponsored research office has many grant-related resources, including a subscription to the , the leading tool for matching research interests with potential funding programs. Graduate Student Emergency Fund
÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ has access to funds to support graduate students who are experiencing financial hardship due to an unanticipated event. A student is typically eligible to receive funding once per academic year. These funds do not need to be repaid and are distributed on a case-by-case basis. Graduate Student Association
The mission of the GSA is to keep graduate students informed of College issues that affect them, to keep the College aware of these issues, and to encourage social and academic interactions among graduate students in different departments. Students are encouraged to attend all GSA events and serve on the GSA executive committee or college committees. The GSA also maintains a site to provide additional information for graduate students.
Access Services
÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ welcomes the full participation of individuals with disabilities in all aspects of campus life. The Access Services office in Guild Hall provides support and reasonable accommodations for eligible students, employees, and guests with disabilities.
International Student and Scholar Services and Advising
International Student and Scholar Services and Advising supports international students on our campus. They provide advising to students on F-1 or J-1 visa status regarding U.S. immigration regulations and nonresident alien taxation during their study at the College and support in academic, social, personal and cross-cultural adjustment.
Health and Wellness Center
The Health and Wellness Center at ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ is available to all students with resources for health as well as mental health and wellness.
Library and Information Technology Services (LITS)
The Library and Information Technology Services (LITS) at ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ supports the work of faculty, students, staff, guest researchers, alumnae/i, and prospective students to enable teaching, learning, research, and administrative work institution-wide through their .
