Join the Distressing Math Collective for an info session on careers in math, computer science, and statistics with Dr. Steven Robertson of Southern Methodist University. Snacks will be served in the math lounge starting at 6:30 p.m.! The general focus of the talk will be about the various options math/computer science/statistics majors have after they graduate from their undergraduate degree. This will naturally lead to discussions about career paths and also how a graduate degree in the same or a related major can open even more doors to attractive career opportunities. The field of data science will be discussed, and we will see how math, computer science, and statistics fit into the big picture of data science. We will consider various details about graduate school options undergraduates could consider (masters vs Ph.D programs) and will discuss the advantages that a graduate degree in math or statistics can provide. The talk will be informal in nature, with an opportunity for Q&A. The goal for the presentation is for it to be light, fun, and informative for everyone, without any pressure.
