(PhD History of Art, 2014) has been named the Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Art History & Archaeology at Columbia University, a two-year post that begins with the Fall 2015 term.

Johanna's research focuses on the history and theory of the postwar American avant-garde, experimental film and video, and new media. Her dissertation, “Cinema at the Crossroads: Bruce Conner’s Atomic Sublime, 1958-2008,” explores the work of the influential experimental filmmaker Bruce Conner in a context of counter-culture and Cold-War era politics. An article on Conner, “Pop, Collaboration, Utopia: Bruce Conner’s BREAKAWAY in 1960s Los Angeles,” is forthcoming in the journal (89).
